HOLDS UP A PROGRAMME Station WEAK, of the National I Broadcasting Company of America, i was silenced for eight hours by a bat j j that flew in among the condenser | | plates at the company's power house j in Bellmore, L. 1., and which was elec- j trocuted. Just before 10 a.m. the sta- I tion began fading off the air, and a few minutes later died completely, j Employees checked over the trails- j milting and antenna circuit, but could ' find nothing wrong. The manager of : the plant operation and engineering was summoned. Assisted by a squad ] of electricians, he checked over the circuit, and found that every part ot the station’s equipment responded properly to tests except the antenna condensers in the power plant at Bellmore. So the condensers, which are made up of large concave plates separated by air spaces, were torn apart. Then the bat was found. A two-hour job or rebuilding the condensers followed. Then they had to be retuned. :
