“Grandeur ” Film
SEVERAL PROBLEMS FACED IN MANUFACTURE OF NEW PICTURES 1 [ I A recent dispatch from Hollywood tells of the efforts at the Fox plant to perfect from the angle of the showman the new device for showing films on enlarged screens and adding depth to their dimensions. The development of a camera for making "Grandeur" pictures was less 1 of a problem than the making of a ; new projector. The formulae for ihe lens were i the same, but the accommodating of i i the new lens lias been a matter of ! some complexity concerning which no J details have been made public. Tlie machine used to photograph j iem " pictures is >he product of j the Mitchell Camera Corporation. It i readily accomplishes all that the en- ; : gineers demanded of it, and whatever i problems its use will entail will bo | merely matters of experience to : I cameramen. The use of the Mitchell camera, j equipped with the new type of lens ; will require sets of deeper dimension, | and, consequently, larger stages in the i studios. As in the case of other j lenses, it will be adjustable to short range and long range, so that the background in interiors, for instance, will not be troublesome. The stereoscopic effect which is present in the projection was not sought primarily, but, as the research ; engineers expected, it is a concomitant result. Experts are so well pleased with the : results of their three years of work i that they arc- now prepared to install projectors and ihe new camera in all j . of the Fox theatres. i
