TEMPORARY HOME

WANDERER SLEPT IN EMPTY HOUSE WOMAN COMPLAINED Following a complaint by a woman. Constable Daulton, of the Newmarket Station, visited an empty house in Shore Road, where he found John William Mclntosh asleep in the wash-house. Mclntosh, a labourer, aged 57. ap-. peared at the Police Court this morn- j ing and pleaded guilty to being found . on enclosed premises. He was stated ; to have no fixed place of abode. Sub-Inspector McCarthy said the j man had been sleeping in the house i for some nights. “Only two nights," interjected accused. It was the sub-inspector's opinion that the most serious aspect of the case was that women were frightened of men hanging about the neighbourhood. Mclntosh had said that he could not find work, but that should not be difficult at this time of the year. He was a strong, able-bodied man. Staff-Captain Holmes, of the Salvation Army, said that accommodation could be found for Mclntosh in the Army Home until he found the position in a wool store which he was awaiting. “He’s too lazy. That's his trouble,” commented Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. “However, I will give him a chance this time if he goes with the Salvation Army officer.” Mclntosh was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months.
