ATHLETIC KORERO
HE Wellington Amateur Athletic Club last Saturday afternoon staged a corroboree and korcro, a new kind of athletic meeting in which the social amenities played a greater part than the athletic side. In true “Savage” fashion the programme proceeded through a number of more or less humorous events, and nothing was really serious. At the head of events was "Edward Pie” (Mr. E. G. Guy) and "Athletic Adolphus” (Mr. A. C. Kitto), while among the officials mentioned on the programme were “Ye grave handicapper. Ra Scooterweary” (Mr. Poutawera), and "Ye firer of ye royale cannone , Down Dorrie Down (just coom up from Some-are-set)., Mr. Leslie. The events were stated to be arranged by Trotski, Jumpski and Runski, and were conducted under the “rules and mis-rules of ye N.2. Eh, Eh, Eh What and ye Council thereof, whenever and wherever they maye be found, if at all and notwithstanding.” There was also a laugh created over the names of orevious champions. For instance, there were O. Rogerum Landeroneortwo (Warsaw) and Darnit Kaybo, the references being, of course, to R. W. Lander, hurdles champion, and Garnet Cabot, ex-New Zealand walk champion. The. same spirit permeated the entertainment provided, and the whole affair was one of the most enjoyable ever staged in Wellington. and an excellent method of bringing club members into closer touch with one another.
