OTAHUHU FINANCE
CONSERVING OF FUNDS "The funds of the borough are n«>t up to expectations and the legal and finance committee considers that, the £IOO allocated on the estimates for repair work to Albion Lane should be conserved. - ' said the Mayor of Otahuliu at last evenings meeting of the council. The committee recommended that no more than £lO be spent on patching the road, and that the works committee be authorised to have a light erected. Cr. Pearce said the works com mi tee only wanted £6 5s in excess of the amount already authorised. £IOO. After the money had been allocated for the work the finance committee was exceeding its jurisdiction in curtailing the scheme. The Mayor said he understood the position, but the finance committee was of the opinion that under the existing conditions the finances of the borough must be conserved. The Mayor assured the councillors that the question had been very seriously considered. When Cr. Pearce pressed for the reason of the urgent economy, the Mayor said he would prefer to make that in committee. At the conclusion of the ordinary business the council went into committee to discuss the question.
