THREE BOYS DROWNED
TERRIFIC THUNDERSTORM AT SYDNEY GREAT DAMAGE CAUSED United PA.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 10.30 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. A violent thunderstorm in Sydney today was responsible for the loss of three lives and great damage to buildings and gardens. Three schoolboys were sheltering in a stormwater canal at Leicliardt, when suddenly they were overwhelmed by a wall of water. They were carried half a mile. Two of the boys, aged ten and eight respectively, were drowned. The third lad was rescued in an unconscious condition. Another hoy was drowned, being i swept down a stormwater channel. A horse was killed by lightning. Poultry and birds were killed by hail, which also smashed windows and motor-car windscreens by the score. ; The city was deluged and the lower j poritions of Hunter and George I Streets became like swirling torrenis of water inches deep. A bail of fire ran up the facade of the Manchester Unity Building in the city. At Grafton, the public hall was shifted bodily and wrecked.
