ANNUAL MEETING

MATAMATA RACING CLUB (Special, to THE SLE MAT A MAT A. Monday. The annual meeting: of the Matamatu Racing Club was held in the farmer's Hall on Saturday evening, Mr. .1. t\ . Anderson presiding: over a fair attendance. The annual report stated that the season had been successful financially, the profit and loss account showing a credit of £lO4 10s 3d. The to la lisa tor meeting showed a profit of £1,058 3s, but a loss of £34 Os Gd was again experienced on the non-totalisator fixture. The totalisator turnover for the 1920 meeting was £19.741 10s, an increase of £32 compared with the previous year. The next race meeting of the Club, will be held on Saturday, February S, 1930. During the year, the Hon P. A. Dc la Perellc had paid a visit to the Club’s property and had expressed his appreciation of the efforts being made to conduct racing on a sound basis in the district. The power for granting the extra permit applied for had been delegated to the New Zealand Racing Conference, though the Minister still held the right of veto. During the year the Club had entered into grazing operations on its property and under the able -supervision of Mr. Cl. Johnston the venture was proving successful. Officers elected for the coming year were as follow:—Patron, C. Jl. Clin k«t.rd, M.P.; president, J. W. Anderson; vice-presidents, G. Johnstone, C. Casey and R. ,1. Mason; members of committee, C. G. Payze, J. Downie, R. Vincent, J. P. White and 10. Johnston. Dissatisfaction was expressed by members at the amount (£ 195) of outstanding subscriptions, and it was decided to discontinue the non-totalisator meeting. The approval of the Minister is to be asked for awarding the same amount (£900) of stake money as last year. Owing to paucity of entries in open events in the past, it was decided to issue a purely hack programme for the forthcoming meeting. The issue of complimentary tickets came in for considerable discussion, and the matter was finally left in the hands of the committee with a recommendation that the matter of a small charge being made for same, be considered.
