T *avoured by record entries iu pm< t k ally every section, the 38th annual show of the Waikato Agricultural am Pastoral Association, was opened Claudclands today. Heavy rain fell dining the morning, but nevertheless there was a satisfactory first da* attendance of visitors from all parts of the district. The dairying section ugaiu reflected the increasing fertility of the Districv and the trend of its farmers to high* r production, through the medium e herd improvement. The entries wet ' made up of some of the finest quality cattle in the Dominion, the Jersey and Ayrshire breeds being particularly well represented. In the Ayrshire class the North Island champions for the 12129-30 season will be decided. Judged on lasi year’s showing the Friesian section was a little disappoiutiug front the point, of view of numbers, but the quality was high, some particularly fine types of animals coming forward. Entries in the Shorthorn section, although mostly of good quality, were confined to eight breeders. An entry of approximately 140 pedigree Jerseys included some of tl»« best blood in the Dominion, and made a particularly fine showing. Entries iu the sheep classes were well ahead of last year, and the fat lamb section, which will not be judged until tomorrow, is claimed to make a Dominion record, little short, of one thousand lambs coming forward from some of the best country in the Waikato. On Petrie's Day tomorrow two trot ting events, in addition to the usual competitions, are expected to add con siderably to the attractions planned to interest the general public.
