TAKAPUNA CLAIM
POSITION OF TRANSPORT LICENSING MAYOR REVIEWS SITUATION Representation of the four Xmii. i Shore boroughs on No. 2 Transport District’s Bicensing Authority does not meet with the entire approi the Mayor of Taka puna. Mr. J. \Y. Williamson. I “Under the original motor transport system, the Taka pu na Borough Council was, in 1926. made the licensing authority for the No. 2 district." Mr. Williamson said. “In the legal proceedings which arose during the confused times of our Takapuna tramway and bus transport systems, it was hold by the Supreme Court that the council’s interests at that time were such that it could not be expected to give in judicial findings upon licensing questions which came before it. I “Accordingly, its powers were transferred to the Auckland City Council. Later, they were placed in the hands of the I >evonport 1 lorough which is the licensing authority until the new tribunal comes into power on January 1. “I feel that, in view of the fact that the largest passenger-carrying enterprise in the district, the North Shore Transport Company, carries on its traffic in Takapuna, and also has Us offices and barns there, the Takapuna Borough Council should have been made the new administering authority, for the time being at any rate. “No doubt the coming will make a difference. I should expect that when that consummation arrives the bulk of the Auckland will pass through Xortheot**. It would then l*e reasonable t«> make the Northcote Borough Coui administering body. '
