GARAGE GOSSIP
I Avoid violent acceleration or brak- j ing on wet or greasy roads. Rubber is the best substance to use ; to absorb vibration in a car. The absence of water in a battery : will cause the bottom to be eaten 1 away by strong acids. j Number plates* must be kept clean. I Wash them frequently during muddy or dusty conditions. Western Springs stadium will be quite close to the city as far as travelling time is concerned. Trams already run to the gates near the Zoo and it is hoped to build a loop-line from the Point Chevalier track. There is parking space from between 5.000 and 0,000 motor-cars. Lots of pointers have been given on spark plug points. One that seems to have been missed is that eventually, if not immediately, after the 10,000 miles accepted as standard, the points will burn and make the gap wider than that prescribed for best performance. The car keeps on running, it’s true, but not as well as if the points were right. Glaring headlights confuse those approaching from the opposite direction and cause those going in the samedirection to turn off the rear view mirror to escape “eye burn.” The best method to escape the results of another driver’s bright lights is to keep the windshield clean of all dust and traffic film. It is the glare against these particles that blinds the eye. That means that the windshield should be washed with water and soap at least once during a night driving trip in the city. WELL CATERED FOR Auckland will be well catered for in ! the way of speed thrills this year. ( There will be motor-cycle racing on | the Western Springs Stadium on Satj urdays, also on Blandford Park every Wednesday. It is now learnt that the ' Auckland Automobile Racing Club will hold motor-car races at Mangere Speedway every month. In addition there are the annual events on the Muriwai Beach and grass track motorcycle .racing at Taka puna.
