PAPATOETOE WELFARE LEAGUE
An objection was lodged at the last meeting of the Papatoetoe Welfare League to the proposed registration of bicycles by the Papatoetoe Town Board.
Members expressed the opinion that the proposed registration would penalise school children who had a long distance to travel to tlie railway station and public school. The secretary was instructed to write to the General Manager, New Zealand Railways, asking that the benefits of the workers’ tickets be extended to those using trains which arrive in Auckland prior to 9 a.m., and to point out that many of the suburban residents who use these trains fere receiving less wages than those using the earlier trains. It was decided to ask the Manukau County Council if facilities could be granted to the residents of .Papatoetoe and surrounding districts to enable them to have access to the beaches fronting the properties of Messrs. Price and Orr, on the Puhinui Road. Owing to the large increase in the number of residents in the western portion of the district, it was decided to urge on the Auckland Education Board the necessity of making provision for a new school in that part of the district.
An invitation to attend a, conference of local bodies on November 19, to discuss questions in connection with improved postal facilities, was received from the Papatoetoe Town Board. It was decided to attend.
