MAJESTIC

“BLOCKADE” An exciting picture of the rum-run-ning trade will be shown at the Majestic Theatre this evening in “Blockade.” This is a part-talkie, starring Anna Q. Nilsson. From Nassau to the keys of Florida —haven for many an outlaw craft —the name of Bess Maitland Ims grown into almost legendary significance. A woman of overwhelming charm yet with the daring and ruthless courage of a pirate chief, Bess commands the trim yacht Fury, preying on the ponderous rum vessels anchored off the mainland.

In the guise of a retired philanthropist, Arnold Gwvnn lives in respectability in a coastal town from where he directs the activities of his rum fleet, operating betwen Nassau and lower Florida under command of Hayden, a renegade skipper. Gwynn meets Bess as Miss Van Syke, and while they talk a code message is brought to her, warning that Hayden’s fleet is putting out from the Bahamas.

That night the Fury attacks the rum convoy, but in the battle Bess is made prisoner. She tricks her gua.rd, escapes in an open boat without oars and floats to sea for hours before she is picked up by Vincent Goddard, a wealthy young sportsman in liis

They at the same time decide Vincent is the mysterious “Agent Canavan,” ace of the revenue force, and lure him through the ruse of a proposed real estate deal. _ Hayden meanwhile has placed his own men aboard the Fury to forestall trickery, and Vincent is held prisoner while the two vessels are loaded with liquor. Bess boards the Fury, and, in seeming rage because of Vincent’s escape from death, forces him at the point of a pistol to send a radio message in code purporting to order that the revenue cutter stand off. The message is signed “Canavan.” The two ships then set sail for Florida, where more exciting adventures await them. The Majestic’s new programme will also include several specially selected supports including an all-talking comedy, #*U.F.A. gem, and a Fox Movietone News and Path© Audio Review, with events of the day in sight and sound.
