MORNINGSIDE TUNNEL PLAN MINISTER PROMISES ACTION THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter PARLIAMENT BLDGS., Today. That there is no desire to shelve tlio question of the Morningside tunnel and that he would shortly secure Cabinet’s consideration of the proposal and announce a definite decision, was the statement made in the House of Representatives yesterday 4 )y ’ tbe Minister of Railways, the Hon. W. B. Taverner. The statement was in reply to a question put by Mr. H. G. R. Mason (Auckland Suburbs), who asked the Minister, in view of the increasinganxiety ,in the western suburbs of Auckland over transport difficulties, to make a definite announcement as to when a decision on the Morningside tunnel might be expected. The Minister said that a departmental committee of inquiry had been set up in June, and the last report had reached him a week ago. He realised the importance of the undertaking so far as Auckland was concerned and proposed to go through the reports and submit recommendations *'° Gabinet with the object of getting a decision as soon as possible.
