Girl Bather Drowned in Tauranga Surf
ROTORUA VISITOR CAUGHT IN CURRENT From Our Own Correspondent TAURANGA, Today. A drowning fatality occurred at Mt. Maunganui, this morning, Miss Edith Aubertin, a visitor from Rotorua losing her life n the surf. There was a big sea running when Miss Aubertin, who could not swim, went to bathe in the surf. She appeared to be dragged under by the strong current close to the shore. Her cries for assistance were heard by those on the beach, and several bathers rushed into the surf to help her. Some ten minutes later the body was found floating in the vicinity of where Miss Aubertin was last seen. Artificial respiration was resorted to for two hours, but without success. Her mother was also staying at the Mount.
