SWIMMING BATHS NEED
CENTRE TO CARRY OUT REPRESENTATIONS TWO SITES SUGGESTED Definite action will be taken by the Auckland Swimming Centre to secure the provision of more swimming baths in the suburbs. The centre’s meeting last evening decided to send a deputation to the Mount Albert Borough Council, stated to be contemplating erecting baths, to sponsor the centre’s aims. Messrs. J. Enwright, the chairman, H. Moore and R. Hardy will form the deputation. The views of the centre on the necessity for more swimming baths in the suburbs have already been explained in The Sun. Mr. Enwright mentioned last evening how the position was being affected with the increases in the issue of swimming certificates to children. He suggested the old reservoir in Newton and Western Springs as ideal sites for baths and his views were supported by Mr. L. Brighton. “Municipal authorities and the public should recognise the need of more swimming baths,” Mr. Enwright said. Mr. L. Kenny thought all outside boroughs should be approached on the question.
