HOME AGAIN

TOURING the last few weeks, a most interesting spectator at Alexandra Park has been one of Auckland’s old trotting school, Charlie Herd. The one-time successful trainer and reinsman, who has three Auckland Cups to his credit, is weathering the storm of time remarkably well and still takes a keen interest in the game. Charlie is a lover of the squaregaited horse, and if facilities are offering will remain in the North and set up business again as a trainer. The genial sportsman can recite some stirring incidents of the early days of trotting in this province and since leaving here has seen the game flourish in both the Taranaki and Hawke's Bay districts.
