PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD
Following: a letter from the Government auditor regarding: water charges, tho town clerk reported at a special meeting of the Papatoetoe Town Board I:ij» t evening that where the system of rating is on the unimproved value, there is no legal method of making a fixed charge or flat rate for the supply of water, but a water rate must be levied.
The clerk’s recommendation that the water supply be taken as available from January 1, that a charge of 2s #;d for consumers and Is 3d for nonconsumers be levied, and that application be made to the Government Loans Board for permission to raise additional money for the completion «<t* the work, and purchase of meters, was adopted. A scale of charges for water was adopted, and it was agreed to apply to the Governor-in-Council for permission to install meters in connection with, the water scheme. The clerk reported that the turnrock had stated that between 10,000 and 15.000 gallons of water was escaping each night. The clerk of works expressed the opinion thac. this was due to leaky joints and hydrant connections. The clerk of works reported that the supply would be available over the whole district by the beginning of the year. It was decided to frame a by-law compelling all persons using bicycles In the Papatoetoe town district to register and number them. On the recommendation of Mr. E. S. Sorensen, chairman of the 'works committee. Mi*. R. S. Brooke was appointed turncock.
