PREFERS A JURY
SEAMAN REMANDED ON THEFT CHARGE JUST OUT OF GAOL Electing to be tried by a jury at the Supreme Court, James Anthony Lynch, who faced a charge of theft at the Police Court this morning, was remanded for a week. Lynch, a seaman aged 25, and said to hail from Newfoundland, was charged with the theft of an attache case, valued at £4, belonging to F. Winks. Chief-Detective Hammond said Lynch was just out of gaol. He had been found in possession of a case of women’s clothing, which he was trying to sell. His story was that he had been given the case by a man named “Joe,” and a remand was wanted, as the owner of the bag had yet to be found.
