Garages Add to Property Value
MUST BE WELL-PLANNED
Architectural design ot the detached garage can frequently be made an important factor in the attractiveness of house and grounds; good design and proper placement on the plot may serve to conceal an unsightly dryingyard with, its flapping wash or to increase the apparent size and add to the impressiveness o£ the house.
Garages which will accommodate at least two cars are coming to be accepted as the most economic and satisfactory. While many families may not contemplate ownership of more than one machine, advantageous use can always be made of the extra space. It. may he used for storage or be made to yield a revenue from rental. , Conditions of the automobile market and the frequently found need for a second utility machine often necessitate space for two cars. Instead of turning in a machine af a small figure when a new car is purchased, it can often be made to suit the daily needs of the wife for social and shopping purposes. The boy and girl of the family may be willing to spend some time painting and repairing an old machine for their use, thus saving a great deal ot wear and tear on the new car. The two-car garage is also often more easy to harmonise with the house architecture than are the necessarily small proportions of the singlecar garage. Architectural harmony practically dictates that the garage be constructed of the same materials as the house.
