AGRICULTURAL SCHOOL

FORMATION SPONSORED BY BOARD PRACTICAL REQUIREMENTS For practical agriculture, a school with a definite agricultural bias is needed near Auckland. This view was again decided upon when the Education Board received, this morning, a memorandum from the Education Department urging adequate outdoor instruction in agriculture for students of the Training College. On the motion of Mr. H. S. W. King, the board, replying to the department’s view, will point to the need for an agricultural school. Mr. A. Burns, the chairman of the board, mentioned that the Director of Education was continuing his negotiations for an area of land of about 3S acres within easy reach of the city, for practical agricultural study by Training College students and pupils of Seddon Memorial Technical College. “The department may have been dilatory in providing an agricultural school,” he remarked, “but it is on the job now.” Mr. King did not think there were facilities at the Training' College to teach practical agriculture. The Government should fulfil its promise to build an agricultural school. Mr. Burns: The department is taking steps in that direction. “It has been doing so for IS months,” said Mr. King'. Mr. E. C. Banks said three important subjects from a farming point of view were plant life, animal physiology and physical geography. Mr. Burns further said tenders were being received for the preparation of a half-acre plot at the Training College.
