SENATOR CENSURED
SECRET EMPLOYMENT OF AGENT CORRUPTION NOT SUGGESTED Reed. 11.6 a.m. WASHINGTON, Mon. By a vote of 54 to 22, the Senate officially censured Senator Hiram Bingham (Republican, Connecticut) for secretly employing an agent of the Conuecticut Manufacturers' Association to assist him in connection with the pending Tariff Bill. The blow was softened, however, w',. n an amendment to the original resolution was also adopted, stating that the employment of the agent “was not the result of corrupt motives on part of the Senator from Connecticut.” The resolution does not call for Senator Bingham’s resignation, and is only an expression of the sense of the Senate. Senator Bingham afterward declared that he had no intention of resigning.
