Dixieland Has Carnival for Great Airman
Miniature ’Planes a Feature of Decorations MASSES OF FLOWERS Dixieland Cabaret presented a gray scene last evening, a special programme having been arranged to welcome Squadron-Header Kmssford Smith and his party. The cabaret had been beautifully decorated with bowls of lilies and snowy watsonia, the tables having tall vases of sweet pea and Iceland poppies. A golden dirigible with several miniature planes, including a baby ‘’Aloth.'* hovered in the air amid the soft glow of shaded lights, the planes having been lent by the Auckland Aero Club. At the entrance to the ballroom the Aero Club wings in red and blue, with a monogram in the centre, had been hung. . During the evening an exhibition dance by Aliss Alargaret O’Connor and Air. W. E. Priestley, of Wellington, was given, the item being enthusiastically encored. Excellent dance music was provided by Air. Harry Neilson’s famous Dixieland Orchestra, many new and bright numbers being played. Several charmingly decorated cubicles had been reserved for the officials of the Aero Club and their wives, who were present to welcome the guest of honour. With the official party were: Airs. Spencer Alason, who wore a frock of floral georgette, with a design in tints of lemon and orange over black. Mrs. W. S. R. Bloomfield was wearing an ankle length frock of ecru lace. Mrs. S. Anderson had chosen a smart frock of biscuit georgette and coffeecoloured lace. Airs. J. Seabrook was wearing a taffeta frock in a pale shade of mauve. Airs. R. J. Copley was frocked in flowered georgette with a pink design over black.
Airs. F. B. Cadman chose a georgette frock in pale coral with diamente trimming. „ ... Airs. J. C. Whitney was in crepe faille in a deep orchid shade with uneven hemline . Airs. W. C. Whitney was frocked in bois de rose lace, ankle length. Mrs. Fraser-Castles wore a gold sequined frock. Airs, de Graff Hunter had on a period frock of black sprigged taffeta and tulle. Lacquer red lace and velvet was worn by Airs. J. AI. Goodfellow. Mrs. D. Harkness chose a dainty frock of daffodil ninon and lace. Airs. Tresiidder (Singapore) wore flame ripple ninon. Aliss Berris Kingsford Smith was wearing cherry frilled taffeta and net, with taffeta hip bow. Aliss Alaisie Clark was frocked in black georgette with a girdle of diamente. Aliss Dowell had chosen a dainty frock of buttercup taffeta. Aliss Tod Hunter wore a period frock of naples blue satin. Aliss E. Rhodes had on a becoming frock of eau de nil georgette with a beaded design in silver. Among others present were:— Airs. Alexander Follick, who wore a chic frock of black soupple satin and tulle handsomely sequined in gold and silver. Airs. AI. Alartin was in mauve georgette and silver lame. Airs. C. Duff chose cameo pink crepe de chine with a deep hem of lace. Airs.- AI. Popplewell was frocked in black and gold sequined net. Airs. Leslie Rainger wore a frock of unrelieved black net. Airs. N. Chapman was wearing a becoming frock of corn-coloured taffeta and tulle with shoulder spray in deeper tones. Airs. Albert Neville chose apple green taffeta, with a hem of gold lace. Airs. Robinson was in shell pink taffeta and silver lace. Aliss Alargaret O’Connor was wearing a smart frock of black ring velvet, with a skirt of gold embossed lace. Miss Kathleen O’Connor was in pastel pink and blue taffeta, ankle-length at back. Aliss Edna Ballantyne had chosen a (dainty frock of mist-blue georgette and ’tulle. Aliss D. Rainger wore a frock of cire lace and gold sequins. Aliss D. Roscoe had on a taffeta frock, with deep satin hem of betty blue, and oriental shawl. Aliss F. Stevenson wore naples blue taffeta and net. A frock of silver lame, with uneven hem, was chosen by Aliss D. Croker. Aliss Audrey Walton was wearing a sea green taffeta period frock. Aliss Biddy Philcox chose a frock of gold la.ee and deep red roses. Flesh pink georgette was worn by Aliss AI. Ballantyne. Aliss Joan Af orris chose dainty pink net and gold lace. Aliss AI. Adams wore phlox pink crepe de chine. Palest lemon crepe de chine, anklelength, was favoured by Aliss Foster.
Aliss AI. Alorey had chosen a delightful frock of peach crepe de chine. Miss V. Thompson was wearing forest green satin, with shoulder spray in toning shades. Aliss H. Aliller wore a smart frock of pale mauve georgette. Aliss Daphne Knight was in a flounced frock of floral georgette. Aliss Jean Lawford was in delphinium blue lace, with a large pink shoulder Bower. Aliss Joan Alorris had on a sweet frock t>f pink net over gold lace, with a bouffant skirt of rainbow tulle. Aliss Stewart wore a leaf green satin frock, with tulle hem. Aliss Audrey Walton chose an anklelength frock of sea foam taffeta. Miss Dolly Vaile had on unrelieved black georgette. ATiss Johnston was in black georgette, with diamente trimming.
