The supporting party, after passing the badly crevassed area across the trail reached its destination last night and has begun its homeward journey. The depot laid down at the point where it turned back is half-way to the mountains. The depots beyond that will be laid by a geological party which will leave the base camp in a few days. The supporting party traversed 200 miles and established four supply depots, each 50 miles apart. Also it marked the trail with flags for the geological party. Dr. Lawrence Gould’s scientific party will press forward another 200 miles to the mountains. There an extensive survey Will be undertaken to solve important problems of the Antarctic terrain. The support party started on October 15. Three teams of nine dogs each hauled six loaded sledges.
