In the Market Place
SYDNEY CHERRIES HERE APPLE SUPPLIES SCARCE The first cherries of the season reached Auckland this morning by the Maheno. Apart from the large shipment of Canadian apples unloaded from the Aorangi yesterdaj', there have been no arrivals to replenish depleted stocks of apples. Sturmers are still available, but Delicious, Dougherty, and Granny Smith varieties are virtually ended. Some Canadian Cox's Orange apples have sold up to 20s a case. There are more bananas offering, and the high prices of last week have eased slightly. Strawberries Cheaper Strawberries are increasing in supply day by day, and both Captain Cooks and Marguerites are cheaper. The pear market has firmed with the decrease in supnly. Island tomatoes were not offering today. Orange prices have not changed, and the market is steady. Vegetables in season are all plentifully supplied. Broad beans, green peas, and new potatoes are cheap. Quotations: FRUIT.
