LEAGUE FOR BOYS
SPORTS AT CARLAW PARK Keen enthusiasm was exhibited by the various teams competing in the Schoolboys’ League Football Knockout Competition at Carlaw Park on Saturday. The football and sports, which were run under the auspices of the Auckland Football League and Primary Schools Management Committee, were favoured with ideal conditions. Fast, spectacular play was witnessed between the seven competing teams, who displayed an unusually high standard ol’ football. The interim between the first and second rounds was distinguished by a special sports feature comprising a senior 100 yards race for the championship cup donated by the Newmarket club, and a Midget 100 yards for boys under six stone seven pounds. Results were as follow: FOOTBALL First Round Newmarket, 13, beat Onehunga Convent, 0. Scorers: N. McGregor, J. Smith. Akarana, 3, beat Richmond, 0. _Scorer: R. Nixon. Otahuhu, .8, beat Devonport, 0. Scorers: J. Mullins, S. Hamilton. Second Round Newmarket, IS, beat Otahuhu, 0. Soorers: H. Franklin, J. Smith, G. Watts. Mangere, 9, beat Akarana, S. Scorers: Phillips, McGuire. The final of the knock-out cup competitions resolved itself into a dogged battle between Newmarket and Mangere. Both teams gave a good exhibition of last, clean play. The superior combination of Newmarket, however, carried it to victory. Final score:— Newmarket, 6; Mangere, 0. The scorers were J. Smith and M. McGregor. In athletic events, the results were: 100 Yds Senior Challenge Cup.—W. Phillips (Mangere), 1: A. Munro (Onehunga Convent), 2; C. Winkle (Onehunga Convent), 3. IOOYds, Midgets.—J. Paton (Onehunga Convent), 1: E. Matthews (Mangere). 2: E. Baird (Newmarket), 3. Club Relay Race.—Onehunga Convent, 1; Mangere, 2; Devonport, 3.
