Philistines’ Club Holds Final Revel

Presentations & Musical Programme Given BRILLIANT FUNCTION The Gay Philistines held their final revel in the Operatic Society’s Hall on Saturday evening. There was a large i gathering of members and friends, Mr. : Harold Gillespie being chairman for j the evening. ! A programme of songs, with a short sketch produced by Air. Fred AlcCallum, occupied the earlier part of the evening. This was much appreciated. An item responsible for much laughter was the reading of “The Scorpion,” the j club’s annual magazine, which is ; edited by Air. Gillespie. “The Scorpion” contains pithy and amusing matter, with non-malicious personal paragraphs, which on this occasion brought forth much laughter, those concerned taking their share in good part. During the evening opportunity was taken to present Mr. J. W. Wilson, former secretary, with an entree dish, and Mr. Fred AlcCallum with a set of Oscar Wilde’s plays. Those contributing to the programme were: Songs, Aliss S. Stacpoole and Com-missioned-Gunner Taylor. Taking part in the sketch: Aliss Beryl Poulton, Aliss Kitty Williamson, Air. J. YU Birch and All*. Prentice. A prize given for the best short story was a badge, the “Philistine’s Jawbone,” which was won by All*. Gillespie. _ * After an interval for supper, dancing was continued until midnight. AAIONG THOSE PRESENT Airs. Tiarks wore a frock of black georgette with panels of silver lame. Airs. D’Kste was in silver embroidered net over moonlight blue satin. Airs. McLean wore a rose georgette frock with encrustations of rose and silver beads. Airs. Trevellyan King chose flame and peach crepe de chine with a design of appliqued black daisies. Gillespie was in a period frock of ivory satin and diamente. Airs. lan Simpson chose a lovely' frock of ivory satin and diamente. Airs. Brian Dunningham was frocked in ivory satin with diamente trimming. Airs. F. Hutchinson had on cerise lace and ring velvet with diamente. Airs. Gilmour wore a frock of oriental lame and lace with hip bow of blue velvet. Airs. Harle Giles wore black georgette. Mrs. W. Dalian chose black georgette with diamente trimming. Aliss Quale was wearing navy crepe de chine with ivory embroidered shawl. Aliss Atyrtle Burns was frocked in Spanish lace. Airs. Gladys AlcLeay had on a frock of black Spanish lace with flame hip bow*. Aliss Rona AlcLeay chose a floral georgette frock. Aliss liazel Aloon was wearing black georgette and silver lame. Aliss Anita Webster was frocked in pale pink crepe de chine with hip bow of ring velvet. Aliss Tony Alartingo wore flame georgette with bodice of sequins. Aliss Edna Craig chose shell pink satin beaute. A frock of powder blue georgette was favoured by Aliss Beryl Poulton. Miss Patty Gilmour was wearing a dainty frock of sea green taffeta with bouffant skirt of taffeta and tulle. Aliss Alargaret AlcLean was charmingly frocked in turquoise taffeta and tulle with rosebud trimming. Aliss Jean Dallen wore flame taffeta and beige tulle. Gillespie was in apricot georgette and diamente. Aliss Bygate wore an ankle-length frock of ivory georgette and lace with diamente trimming. Miss Greta Heron chose turquoise taffeta with long uneven hem. Aliss Doris Wright was in a frock of green flounced net. Aliss Doreen D’Authreau was wearing a frock of lime taffeta. Aliss Effie Harding chose deep pink spotted net, with full ankle-length skirt. Aliss Gillespie was wearing apricot georgette with diamente trimming. Miss Gwen Cook wore an apricot pettailed frock with french bow. Aliss Alargery Aleek wore desert gold lace with taffeta hip bow. Aliss Xoeline Worthy chose pink lame with ankle-length skirt. Aliss Joyce Logan wore powder blue chenille and georgette. Aliss Lorna. ATcCrae was wearing lemon taffeta and tulle. Aliss Bramble was in black charmeuse and jade green embroidered shawl.
