SAVED FROM FIRE
TWO PASSERS-BY RESCUE DAZED WOMAN HOUSE DESTROYED Press Association PALMERSTON N., Today. When a six-roomed dwelling at Longburn was totally destroyed by fire on Saturday evening the occupant, Mrs. Flanagan, narrowly escaped being killed. . Mr. Flanagan, who is employed at the Longburn freezing works, was in Wellington at the time of the outbreak and his wife was alone in the house. Mrs. Flanagan awoke to find the house full of smoke and the back portion in flames. Two men, Dahl and Crawford, who were passing in a car, investigated to see if they could give any help. Inquiry of other people at the fire revealed no knowledge of anyone being in the house, but both men decided to make sure, Dahl going to the front and Crawford to the rear. Dahl heard a woman scream and forced his way into a smoke-filled passage where Mrs. Flanagan was found in a completely dazed condition. Dahl had great difficulty in remaining sufficiently long to drag her out of danger on to the lawn. A bucket brigade was formed and a small shed saved.
