The glare attracted the attention of Messrs, r isher, Rangi and Phelan, of Tairua, who set out by boat and on foot to cover the intervening four miles. They arrived when the house was completely burned and met Mrs. E. Hutchison and child and Mrs. M. Hutchison and baby all in scantv attire, tramping to the residence of Mr. Shepherd. There was only a small insurance on the house and furniture.
