TREAT FOR CHILDREN

RADIO UNCLES ENTERTAIN EXHIBITION CLOSES TODAY A large party of schoolboys attended the Radio Exhibition in the Town Hall yesterday morning, when talks were given on the history of wireless and on its purposes by Mr. W. M. Dawson and by Mr. C. H. Taylor, B.Sc., M.I.R.E. The exhibition will close at 10.30 this evening, after a successful four days. About 500 children were entertained at a children’s party in the Town Hall concert chamber yesterday afternoon by the various “radio aunts” and “uncles.” Each child was given a bag of sweets and supplied with ice cream. Messages of greeting are being transmitted throughout the Dominion by the New Zealand Amateur Radio Transmitters’ Association, which has an interesting display at one stand. By arrangement with the Post and Telegraph Department, free messages may be sent by visitors. Many telegrams have been received in reply, and one return radio message picked up. Dealers express themselves as satisfied with the results of the exhibition, as many people who already own sets are purchasing the later all-electric models. There will also be a good number of new licence-holders as a result of the four-day show. Broadcasting was again conducted from the model studio on the stage of the Town Hall last evening, and this evening some of Auckland’s leading artists will be on the air. In the afternoon Mr. R. Morgan’s Tudor Orchestra will provide music. The final day today promises to be full of interest to visitors.
