FAIRY BUFF
There was a great hubbub in Fairyland! All the little fairies ran hither and thither in alarm. Why? Because the Queen was very sick. “Get the hot-water bottle!” Fairy Mosey cried. Mosey thought she knew a lot about sickness. “Put it to her back,” she commanded. “Take it away!” screamed the Queen. “Don’t you see I’m too hot?” Fairy Flopsy ran with a glass of water and began sprinkling the Queen with it. “What are you doing?” wailed the Queen. “Do you want to drown me ?” “Here’s something nice I’ve cooked for you. Surely you will eat some of this?” Fairy Dudo exclaimed, coming forward with a lovely pie. The Queen just tasted it and pushed it away. “Nasty, horrid stuff!” was all she said. And they looked at each other in despair. "What’s all this fuss about?” questioned a small fairy coming forward. “The Queen is sick!” cried a thousand voices at once. “She will not eat!” “H-m-m!” he muttered, and scratched his head thoughtfully. Then lie put his hand into his pocket and, drawing out a small phial, held it to the light. “Can you do anything? Is that magic?” they cried. “Oh! Cure the Queen and we shall be so grateful!” Fairy Buff slowly poured a little of the liquid into a glass. It was thick and sticky. Advancing to the Queen, lie commanded her to open her mouth. “Ugh!” the Queen lamented. “Nasty! Nasty!” And she shook her head. “Swallow!” he commanded. “It is better for you than a sweet drink!” He looked so stern that the Qdeen obeyed him. When the last drop had disappeared there was a breathless hush. Suddenly the Queen sprang out of bed. “Better! Better!” she cried joyously. “Fairy Buff is right! I see that what -seems nicest to us is not always best for us!” And all the fairies danced with joy.
