THE FROG AND THE DRAGONFLY
A dragon-fly said to a frog one day, Who sat deep down in a well, “You should come to the ocean with me And then you'd havfe something to tell; It's so big, and broad, and deep and wide Its sides you cannot see.” But the frog he only laughed and said, “Go away, you are fooling me! For I sit here in my big, deep well, With the blue sky over me, And I’m big, and wise, and old with age, And I have eyes that see. And I know this well is just as big As any ocean can be. So go away, young dragon-fly, And do not bother me!” HOUR GLASSES Would you like to make yourself an hour-glass? One of those -things you always see Old Father Time holding in his pictures? For you can, you know. Though, naturally, it won’t be so beautiful as some of the wonderful hour-glasses still to be seen in many English churches. For in days gone by these hour-glasses were used to tell the time instead of clocks, as there weren’t such things as clocks in those days. To make your hour-glass, take two bottles and stretch a piece of rubber or silk over the neck of one of them. Pierce a small hole in the centre of this stretched material, and put some fine sand in the other bottle. Stand it over the first bottle, the necks meeting. ou will have to experiment as to the amount of sand you’ll need for a certain time, but will find it a • most fascinating task.
