“DANGEROUS CURVES”
Clara Bow’s latest talkie, “Dangerous Curves ” a circus story, commenced its session at the New Regent Theatre toda.v
In the story Clara Bow,, circus bareback rider, loves Richard Arlen, star tight-rope walker. Richard is infatuated with Kay Francis, his partner, but Kay loves David Newell, who has a small part in Richard’s act. While Kay is leading Richard on, Clara
is practising on the wire in the hope of breaking into Richard's act. The whole circus sees tnat Jvay is making a fool of Richard. Finally Clara tells him of Kay's duplicity, and when he finds that it is true he becomes nervous and falls from the wire. He is left in a hospital as the circus, with Clara, moves on. Richard recovers, but starts going on the down grade, drinking heavily. Clara, goes back .to the town, finds him and persuades him to rejoin the circus. On the wire again Richard finds his nerve gone. Clara goes on the wire to rouse him. He forgets his troubles and goes into a clowning routine on the wife that is a huge success. Clara is then sure that she can work with Richard, but he insists that Randolph, the circus-owner, get Kay back into In the meantime Kay and Newell have been secretly married, Jmt they have failed to get hookings, and Kay rejoins Richard in the tight-rope act. tdie resumes her vamp tactics with him and he is soon as infatuated as ever. Clara, is heartbroken, but Randolph promises her a spot in the programtne with a comedy wire act of her own. IBut Richard learns that Kay is married and he goes to pieces, drowning his sorrows with drink just before the time for his act. Clara decides on a desperate measure to save him. b>he permission from Randolph to try her plan. It works and Richard is saved but the scheme has cost Clara her job. When Dick comes to and learns that Clara has saved his reputation, he rushes after her, realising at lust that lie loves her. The entertaining talkie and singing supports on the new programme will include songs by the Locust Sisters and Rosemarie Sinnot, and by Leorge Dewey Washington, the negro basso, a noveltv sound cartoon, a Metro Movietone Review, with Johnny Marvin, and finally a Rathe Sound News and Audio Review.
Famous foreign newspaper and magazine writers, as well as internationally known cartoonists, turned actors, and filled the “pressbox’’ in the trial scenes in Greta Garbo’s new picture. The writers, representatives of foreisn publications, vieiting journalists and artists, turned out to do honour to Jacques Fevder. famous French director, directing Miss Garbo at the Me tro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios in liis first picture for that organisation. Conrad Nagel, Holmes Herbert, Lew Ayres and others of note are in the cast.
