FORGED MATE’S NAME
YOUTH ADMITTED TO PROBATION TO LEAVE THE CITY Largely because of his youth, David Barry, aged 18, was admitted by Mr. Justice Smith, in the Supreme Court today, to three years’ probation for 'forgery of his mate’s name on a withdrawal slip on the Auckland Savings Bank. Pleading for another chance for the lad, Mr. Sullivan said that the cause of the trouble was that the youth had not been under proper control. Counsel admitted that Barry had previously been before the Juvenile Court, and had then been taken to the country. His - conduct was so good there that the father had brought the lad to the city, but this was his undoing. Counsel assured the court that if probation were granted, the lad would again be sent to the country and restitution would be made. His Honour made it a condition of the probation that the lad should leave the city immediately and find employment in the country, and ordered him to make restitution of the money.
