REV F W. WILKES COMING NORTH A CHANCE FOR NOTHCOTE

(Bv

"SHUTTLE.”)

Announcement of the transfer of the Rev. F. W. Wilkes, of Morrinsville, to the charge of the Anglican parish of Morthcote, will be "greeted with interest by badminton players. Mr. Wilkes is a great enthusiast, and will no doubt introduce the game at Northcote. Air. Wilkes was responsible by his own individual efforts for the fine representation sent from jlforrinsville to the last New Zealand tournament held at Auckland in August. The game had been introduced in Morrinsville in tile face of many difficulties. There was no suitable liall, and there was a dearth of experienced players. Nevertheless, Mr. Wilkes got together a fine band of enthusiasts, including some boy and girl players of real promise. At the tournament he himself, with his umpiring and general interest in the proceedings, won the esteem of all. and when he comes to Northcote in January there will be many eager to renew acquaintance with him. Badminton has also found a footing at Whakatane and Otakiri, in the Bay of Plenty. There is ample evidence that soon no town will be without at least one badminton club.
