Great Finish to Cricket Match in Wellington OLD BOYS BEATEN WELLING TO N, Th u rsday. The cricket match between University and Old Boys, last year’s champions in the Wellington Cricket Association’s senior championship, had a thrilling finish last Saturday afternoon. University had made 336 the previous Saturday, to which Mackenzie contributed 126, and M’hen Old Boys took the crease they were prepared for an uphill fight, and before the afternoon's play ended almost snatched victorv from the students. The batting right through was bright and interesting, Lambert, James, Reynolds. Parsloe and Duncan each showing up well. Old Boys were unlucky in losing Elliott and Badcock in the early stages of the game, the former being run out and the latter playing a ball on to his wicket, while Lamason went to an Ibw decision before he had opened liis account. James and Lambert then became associated and hit
up 109 runs before they were separated. Duncan also gave James some assistance and the score was taken to 295, before Duncan went to a catch behind the wickets. Old B o y s’ chances looked bright, but M'lien two Puns off University’s total Ba relay was
smartly held by Mackenzie, Victoria College securing victory on the first innings by the narrow margin of two IU Tho Wellington Cricket Association staged a trial match on Labour Day, but the cricket exhibited m.ls not of a very elevating order. • The best bats in the district Mere not included, Dempster, Foley. McGirr and several others not being available. The L team, which included Badcock, Lambert, Baker and Hollings. scored 254. batting first, but the A team.* with Christopherson, Leys, Mackenzie and Lamason in its ranks, made a feeble ; reply, scoring only ISC.
