TIVOLI
“THE RAINBOW MAN” Perfect sound recording is one of the many pleasing features of Eddie Dowling’s “The Rainbow Man,” an all-talk-ing production, rich with songs, heart interest and comedy, which has now been transferred to the Tivoli Theatre. The perfection of sound is not alone confined to the studio shots, but is particularly notable in the exterior scenes as well. The parade of a minstrel troupe, in which Eddie Dowling, Frankie Darro, the child actor, and Sam Hardy, the character actor, lead the marchers, is as clear and audibly comprehensive as the same thing in real life. Marian Nixon makes her talkie debut in this picture as the romantic feminine lead opposite Dowling. Her voice is so real and warm with human appeal that many critics have dubbed her “the Mary Pickl’ord of the talking pictures.” The programme also includes several talkie featurettes.
