THAMES BOROUGH COUNCIL
The staff of the Thames Post Office has decided to form a tennis club and has asked the Thames Borough Council on what terms it will lease one of the courts at Victoria Park. The question has been left to the Works uommittee.
The Health Department has forwarded a favourable report on the sample of borough water forwarded for analysis.
Nine carters forwarded a protest against the borough not calling for tenders for supplementary carting. The letter also stated that the method of giving all to one firm was unfair and too costly. It was pointed out by Cr. Cropp that when tenders were called only two contractors tendered. The Mayor stated that not one of the signatories to the petition had sufficient plant to do the work, and, moreover, the present contractors were entirely satisfactory and most economical. Cr. Bush supported the Mayor in his contention, and said the arrangements with the present contractors more than justified the borough's policy Apart from that there had been no supplementary carting.
