AIRPLANES FOR CLIENTS

BRYANT HOUSE VENTURE From Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Thursday. The business of stock and station agents, on a commission basis, is to be undertaken by the Bryant House trustees, who will employ airplanes in the business. This step has been taken in order to provide additional revenue for the Bryant House convalescent home at Raglan, and other philanthropic activities. An area 400 yards square, situated between Mr. D. V. Bryant’s home at Te Rapa and St. Andrews golf links, three miles north of Hamilton, has been provided for an airdrome. The area is ideally situated, and has been favourably commented on by Major Iv. Caldwell, of Auckland, and Captain M. C. McGregor, of Hamilton. The land is practically flat. A contract has been let for the ploughing and levelling of the area, and this work is being put in hand at once. An airdrome capable of accommodating several machines, including one as large as the Southern Cross, will shortly be built. It is the intention of the trustees to purchase immediately two airplanes, one a three-seater with cabin, and the other a. twoseater.

The airplanes will be employed in connection with the stock and station business, which will be Dominion-wide in its scope. Mr. D. V. Bryant will act as honorary manager of the business, and when a customer at, say, Gisborne, has land or stock for sale, an airplane will be available in Hamilton to convey prospective purchasers to view the property or stock. By this means it is hoped that large deals will be put through with a minimum loss of time. The revenue from the stock and station agency will be invested, and a fund established, the interest from which will be earmarked for continuing the philanthropic work after Mr. Bryant’s death. There are at present 30 beds in Bryant House, and a further 18 will be added in the near future. The Bryant House airdrome will be available for the use of ‘visiting aviators. Messrs. C. L. Mac Diarmid (chairman), Mr. D. V. Bryant (honorary manager), Mr. R. English (secretary), and Mr. R. Madill and Dr. IT. Douglas, are the trustees.
