WAIKATO HUNT CLUB GIFT TO TREASURY Government taxation in connection with the Waikato Hunt’s Labour Day meeting was heavy, though the total is a little below that of last year. The taxation items are as follow, with those of last year’s meeting in parentheses:—Totalisator-tax, £ 796 19s 9d (£7BB 16s 6d) ; dividend-tax, £1.434 15s (£1,420 2s): stakes-tax, £lO6 1.5 s (£128): amusement-tax, £93 13s Id (£lO9 11s 6d). Totals: £2.432 2s lOd (£2,446 10s). Shapes Like a Stayer The two-year-old Adelphi, by Arausio, from Delphi, purchased by Dr. M. G. Louisson at the Trentham sales, and trained by T. Lloyd at Riccarton, has developed into a solid youngster, and shows every signs of making good over a distance of ground later in his career. He has not been hurried, but it is intended give him a race at the New Zealand ' Cup meeting. May Need a Race At the outset of his career over country Importer gave considerable promise, and one or two winning efforts bore out the opinion that he was going to be in the front rank of ’chasers. However, before he could do things he went amiss and has been more or less unsound since. He has been a regular attendant at Ellerslie in recent weeks, and there has been nothing in his work to indicate that he is causing his trainer any trouble. Importer is a fine jumper, and makes few mistakes, but still supporters of the imported gelding would feel more confident about his chance in the Waikato Hunt Cup on Monday if he was thoroughly seasoned.
