“CRUCIFIX” TEST OFF
INTERVENTION BY POLICE WALKER-ALLEY MATCH The “crucifix” test. scheduled t<» take place at the conclusion of the wrestling bout between George Walker and Tom Alley at the Town Hall on Monday evening, has been called off. Restrictions imposed by the police have necessitated the cancellation of the test. The police insisted that the challenge issued by Alley, and accepted by Walker, should take place prior t«» the amateur preliminary bouts next Monday evening, or a permit would not be granted. This did not find favour with the wrestlers, as they would have to take the risk of injury, which might prevent the actual wrestling contest from taking place. Consequently it waf decided to let the “crucifix” test drop, and concentrate on the contest proper. There is still a likelihood that the PLiblic will see the crucifix applied, as in the match last Monday Alley nearly succeeded in applying it, but Walker was too quick. Alley is bound to take the opportunity if an opening occurs on Monday, and this possibility lends interest to the bout. The following amateur preliminaries will precede the main event: —J. MeComish v. F. Clarice; W. Paget v. H. Brewer; C. Bacon v. Simpson; Brown, v. Lewis; C. Anderson v. A. N. Other.
