THEFT OF A RING
PAWNED UNDER FALSE NAME WOMAN CONVICTED Pleading guilty to the theft of a ring, which she had pawned under a fictitious name, Janet MeNearnie was ordered to come up for sentence within six months if called upon. She was charged at the Police Court this morning. McNearnie, aged 28, pleaded guilty to the theft of a ring valued at £7 10s, and belonging to Frederick Howard Pickering, on October 16. According to Cliief-Detective Hammond, accused had been on friendly terms with complainant, who kept a shop in Hobson Street. She had taken the ring from the shop and pledged it. “McNearnie is a married woman, with one child, and lives apart from her husband,” added the chiefdetective. Accused was ordered to make restitution of £l. Major Annie Gordon, female probation officer, asked for suppression of the woman’s name, but Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., declined to grant it, remarking that she was too old. and that reports on her were not too favourable.
