MR. FURKERT’S JOBS

HARBOUR BRIDGE INQUIRY

ANOTHER PROTEST MADE THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter PARLIAMENT Bldgs., Wed. A further protest against the appointment of Mr. F. W. Furkert to the Auckland Harbour Bridge Commission was made by Mr. J. S. Fletcher (Grey Lynn) this evening, during the debate on the Public Works Statement. Mr. Fletcher protested on the same grounds as previously that Mr. Furkert had enough jobs without this one. Mr. W. E. Parry (Auckland Central) : Whom would you put in his place? Mr. Fletcher said that there was more than one engineer in New Zealand. Mr. A. Harris (Waitemata) differed from Mr. Fletcher, saying that Mr. Furkert’s presence in the commission would inspire confidence. It had to be borne in mind that a possible expenditure of £750,000 was involved, and the best possible personnel should be secured.
