Loyal Papatoetoe Lodge DANCING COMPETITIONS Among the visitors present at the , annual ladies’ night of the Loyal ! Papatoetoe Lodse. ALU., 1.0.0. F, held in the lodge rooms, Renown Hall, on Tuesday, were:—Bro. F. Best District | Grand Master; Bro. W. Pitcher, Deputy i District Grand Alaster: Bro. Gray, a ; member of the committee of management of tho Auckland district; and I representatives from the Loyal Mann* j rewa. Loyal Ho wick. Loyal Franklin, j Loyal Ponsonbv, Loyal Richmond ; Lodges, and district officers. ! There was a large attendance of ' members of the Loyal Papatoetoe Lodge and their friends, who spent a j very enjoyable evening dancing to music contributed by Aliss Grant, of Papakura. The duties of AT.C. were carried out I by the sisters of the lodge. ! The supper tables were prettily j decorated witn streamers and flowers |in shades of mauve and pink. Interest j was added to the function by means of two competition waltzes. These were won by Airs. Johnson and Air. F. j F. Closey, baloon waltz: Airs. Peebles, ! and partner. Alonte Carlo waltz. ! KING COUNTRY JOTTINGS Aliss AL O’Connor, matron of the Taumarunui Public Hospital, is at pres- ! ent on holiday in the South Island. With the end of the Taumarunui district Queen Carnival in sight, interest ! in the eliminaton contest for the royal J position is becoming keener. The latest official figures are: Country section, 12.759 votes; town section, 11,300 votes; timber section, 8,853 votes. Town; Aliss Pierce, 6,001; Miss Frank, 5,299. Timber: Miss Cheese (Alanunui), 5,040; Aliss Watkins (Kakahi), 3,813. Country: Miss Waller (Taringamotu), 3,403; Miss White (Otunui-Hikimutu), 3,147; Aliss Olsen (Owliango, Sports), 2,365; Miss Williams (Owliango, Farmers), 2,005; Aliss Crocker (Dairy Farmers, Kaitieke), 1,254; Aliss Dobbs (Sheep Farmers, Kaitieke), 612. * * * COAIING-OF-AGE PARTIES A delightful reception was given recently by Air. and Airs. Tv H. Crocker in the Kaitieke Hall to mark the coming-of-age of their daughter Violet. Dancing and games occupied the evening. The supper was enhanced by a birthday cake presented by Airs. F. Crocker, and bearing the orthodox 21 candles. These were lit by Aliss Crocker, who received many lovely gifts. All*. A. Purnell spoke on behalf of the guests and expressed the good wishes of those present. Air. Crocker responded. * * * Airs. Laydon was the hostess at another happy gathering of young people in the Foresters’ Hall, Taumarunui, to mark the coming-of-ago of her daughter Eileen. A delightful programme was carried out, musical items being given by Airs. Buckwell, ATisses Gilbert, Henderson and Devereux. and Alessrs. McDermott. Johnson, Dawson, Burkett, Butt and Collett.' The supper tables were daintily decorated with pink and white, the usual toasts being honoured.
The proceedings were terminated with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” Air. W. O’Donnell, of Owliango, was an efficient AI.C.
