FAREWELL CEREMONY

AMBULANCE SUPERINTENDENT LEAVING REGRET AT ONEHUNGA 1 Although the Onehunga Division of ; the St. John Ambulance Association I lias been in existence for only one year ; its efficiency may be gauged by its members having already won two important competitions against much older divisions. One of the contests was the Fire Brigade Dominion Championship at llokitika and the other was the Gracie Cup event. These successes were largely ascribed to the tuition of the divisional superintendent, Mr. Malcolm Ogden, at a farewell meeting given him in the Coronation Hall, Onehunga, last evening. Mr. Ogden, wlio is about to take up his residence in the United States, was made the recipient of an Onehunga i rug. Dr. James Kirkwood, honorary surgeon to the division, in making the j presentation, said that in Mr. Ogden's I departure the Onehunga classes would suffer a distinct loss. His extensive experience of ambul- . a nee work in England and his ability jin training others to the work had marked him as a thoroughly efficient officer. Corps-Officer U. Hotchin uegretted Mr. Ogden’s decision to leave New Zealand. The division, he said, was losing an officer who had earned the : respect and confidence of the corps. Onehunga especially had benefited i largely by his comprehensive first-aid knowledge and his marked ability in j I practical work. Mr. in acknowledgment, paid a ! warm tribute to the founders of the division, Messrs. H. W. Thompson, C. O. Baker. D. W. McLean and T. Flay. The total membership now numbered j upward of 30 and the division gives \ promise of becoming one of the most | efficient in the Auckland district. It had already given first-aid to nearly : 200 cases. He expressed his apprecia- j tion of the assistance given by the ! Onehunga Borough Council, the Nurs- j ing Association, Dr. J. Kirkwood and Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P.
