CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED THEFT MAGISTRATE’S CENSURE “I had important business,” said Edward Black, who arrived late at the Police Court this morning, having been bailed on a charge of attempted theft. “Your important business is here,” countered Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. Black, with George Paget, was charged with attempting to steal eight water-meters and a quantity of iron valued at £7, the property of the Manukau County Council, on October Only Paget appeared when the case was first called, and Chief-Detective Hammond said that both 'men had been allowed bail of £IOO. He would ask for a remand for -them to appear at Onehunga on November 4. Mr. Hunt: What about the man who is not here? The chief-detective referred to the possibility of a mistake when lie was interrupted by the arrival of Black. “I was just going to issue a warrant for your arrest,” commented the magistrate, reprimanding accused severely.
