DISASTROUS RACE
28 PIGEONS MISSING CHRISTCHURCH-AUCKLAND The most strenuous as well as disastrous race ever conducted by the Onehunga Pigeon Club was flown from Christchurch last week-end. The birds were liberated at 5.37 a.m. on Saturday, but they encountered such bad weather in the South Island that so far only nine birds of a total of 37 starters have reached their home lofts. The first arrivals were two of Mr. J. Wallace's pigeons, which arrived in Onehunga at 6.6 p.m. on Sunday, which, under the circumstances, is regarded as a phenomenal performance. Results; Mr. J. Wallace’s r c h Lady l’l?lan. 498yds a min., 1; F. Wilson and Sons' r c Raasay, 375yds a min.. 2; Mr. W. Sargent's b c h Rosella, 346yds a min., 3: Langton Bros.’ b b h Royal Ruby, 312yds a min., 4. These four members were the only competitors whose birds completed the distance, 475 miles, within the timelimit of three days, and Mr. Wallace lakes the club's cup for the Flock Championship.
