FRANKTON STOCK SALE

KEEN DEMAND FOR CATTLE Froyix Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Tuesday. Owing to the large attendance of buyers and the good yardings there was an unusual scene of activity at the stock sale at Frankton today. The flush of feed in the Waikato and the i demand for young beef stock attracted j farmers from over a wide area, and j bidding for most classes of stock was | spirited. There was a large number j of IS-months and two-year-old steers ! from the Fast Coast, Te Akau and j Mamaku, which were sold under keen | competition. An exceptional demand j existed for good-coloured beef stock, j especially for Shorthorne, Herefords | and Polled Angus. Prices for these : lines were generally considerably higher than was anticipated. Cow : beef was slightly easier. Fat sheep S quotations were on a par with late I rates, while the rates for pigs were j well up to those of previous sales. The I auctioneers report as follow: Dalgety and Company, Limited. — ; Choice quality light bullocks, to £ls . 7s 6d. or equal to 4s a 1001 b: prime ■ young cows and heifers, to £ll 3s; I average quality cows, £8 10s to £10: ' light fat cows and heifers, £ 4 15s to £6 15s; heavy runners, £3 ISs to £6 12s 6d; vealers, £2 10s to £1 7s; fresh three-year Holstein steers, to £lO 7s 6d; two-year Hereford steers, £8 15s; two-year Holstein steers, £8 17s 6d. In conjunction with the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company, 100 Polled Angus yearling steers were sold at £7 7s 6d and 14 at £5 17s 6d. Eleven Hereford yearling steers realised £6 16s. Other cattle were sold at late rates. Prime shorn wethers made to 2Ss 3d; light, 26s 7d: woolly fat ewes, 275; woolly fat hoggets, 2Gs; store hoggets, 24s 6d: prime heavy baconers, £4 4s to £4 7s 6d; ordinary, £4 to £4 j 3s; best porkers, £3 Is to £3; large stores, £ 2 to C.2 6s; slips, 2Ss to 37s j Gd: weaners, 26s to 30s.
