The grounds were looking very attractive and the pupils showed great keenness in all events. There were many parents and friends present, all of whom enjoyed a jolly afternoon. Mrs. Sergei received the guests wearing a becoming frock of navy crepe de chine, patterned in fawn, and a. black bangkok hat. Pleasant Card Afternoon in J.C.L. Tearooms Catholic Bazaar Funds Benefit TABLES FOR “500” A most successful bridge and 500 afternoon was held in the J.C.L. Tearooms yesterday in aid of the forthcoming Catholic bazaar at Epsom. Mrs. R. Keenan and Miss Fitzpatrick, with the assistance of other members of the committee, organised the afternoon. NORTH SHORE DANCE TRANSPORT COMPANY ENTERTAINS A JOLLY EVENING The fact that it was held immediately after a public holiday was doubtless responsible for the decreased attendance at the dance held at Takapuna last evening, and organised by the North Shore Transport Company’s employees. The cheerful hospitality displayed by the promoters, however, amply compensated for the lessened numbers of the guests. WHITFORD FUNCTION MUSIC AND DANCING On Friday evening a very enjoyable social and dance was held in the Whitford Public Hall, under the auspices of the Whitford branch of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association. The hall was filled by a merry throng of dancers. The chairman, Mr. C. Hensen, referred to the activities of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association in Whitford, particularly in reference to the work of the Calf Club. The president, secretary and members of the Auckland Provincial Calf Club and the Auckland Agricultural and . Pastoral Association were also present and delivered short addresses. A very enjoyable programme of musical items was contributed by Miss Veda Nelson (Auckland), and Miss Phillis Parker (Whitford). Dance music was provided by the Ho wick Orchestra, and supper was provided by the women of the district. Mr. Mitchell, president of the Auckland A. and P. Association, called for a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Hensen, who had been responsible for the formation of the first calf club under the provincial scheme.

BIRTHDAY PARTY UNIQUE DOUBLE EVENT BROTHER AND SISTER CELEBRATE A successful birthday party was given recently by Air. and Airs. T . JPearce, oi ‘'Brooklyn House, Richmond Avenue, Northcote, to celebrate the birthday of their eldest daughter. Aliss Edna Pearce, and that of theneldest son, Alaster Laurence Pearce both birthdays, oddly enough, falling on the same day. The dining hall was gaily decorated with coloured streamers and Chinese lanterns, while the supper table was fragrant with sweet peas. The doubledecker birthday cake was also artistically decorated. Between 50 and 60 guests were present, and the young couple were the recipients of numerous presents. Dancing was the principal amusement, but many games were also played, interspersed with humorous recitations and songs. . . , . Aliss Edna Pearce was frocked in lemon silk relieved with cream silk. JEWISH WOMEN’S CLUB SEWING GUILD’S FINAL MEETING A SPLENDID RECORD There was a large attendance of the Jewish Women’s Club members at their rooms in Wyndham Street last evening, when the last Sewing Guild meeting of the year was held. Mrs. David Nathan, who presided over the gathering, welcomed Mr. William Wallace, chairman of the Hospital Board, Air. W. K. Howitt, chairman of the Relief Committee, Air. 11. A. Sommerville, secretary of the board, and Airs. A. E. Kidd, all of whom had been invited to take part in the special closing function. Airs. Nathan stressed the great value of the work which had been done during? - the year, and stated that more than 2,000 garments had been made, while many needy cases, reported by the relief department, had also received assistance. Warm tributes to the work of the guild were also paid by Airs. Kidd, Air. Alarks, Air. Wallace and Air. Howitt. THAMES GIRLS’ CLUB SUCCESS OF THE YEAR’S WORK ELECTION OF OFFICERS The Thames Girls* Club (incorporated) held its second annual meeting in the Y.W.C.A. social rooms last evening, a large number of members being present. Airs. G. R. Hutchinson, vice-patron-ess, presided in the absence of Airs. A. D. Campbell, Alayoress, who is patroness of the club. After reading the report, the secretary, Aliss N. Surman, stated that there were now 119 members of the club, with an increase in the credit balance. Many donations had been made during the year, organisations which had benefited including the St. John Ambulance Association and the Earthquake Fund. Parcels had also been collected for the Rev. Air. Scrimgeour, who had them distributed among the poor. Aliss Aitken read the treasurer’s statement. Airs. P. AtcGregor, president, said that the objects of the club were to promote friendships, love, honour and unity among the members, and she hoped and trusted that in the coming year these traditions would continue. Great pleasure had been afforded to the pioneers and descendants of the Thames goldfields by reason of the fact that the club’s second year of existence had proved that the organisation was a complete success. Officers elected were:—Airs. P. AlcGregor, re-elected president; vice-pre-sidents. Airs. T. Aitken, Aliss C. Dick and Airs. J. D. Crawford, all reelected; hon. secretary, Aliss N. Sur-, man: lion., treasurer. Aliss xVitken: committee, Airs. Anderson, Mrs. R. Clarke, Airs. Cordes. Airs. Culpitt, Airs. Davidson, Airs Gribble, Airs. Hubber, Airs. AI. Kerr, Airs. Mclntyre, Airs. Xicholls. Airs. Reardon, Airs. Stubbing, Aliss Reardon, and Airs. Wright.
Some delightful bouquets and gifts of appreciation were presented to the president and executive by the members, and a birthday cake, with two lighted candles, was cut by Airs. Hutchinson, who was assisted by Airs. Jensen, a life member. Supper being served, a very pleasant evening was brought to a conclusion.
