WESTFIELD STOCK SALE Westfield. 2.30 p.m. The ordinary smooth running of the Westfield fat stock sale was upset today as a result of the slaughtermen's strike. | The sale was delayed at the end of I the ox beef section for over an hour. | Prices, however, held very firm at late I rates, and there was a steady demand [ for good best ox beef at up to 43s n. hunlrecl; best cow sold at up to 40s ! a hundred. • An offering of approximately 300 [ head of ox beef was drawn largely from | the Waikato. The quality, generally, was good, medium-weight, well-finished ; young steers predominating. Top price of the day was secured for a. line of heavy prime big-frimed bulI locks, on account of a local grazier, I which went to T. Raster, Ponsonby, I and E. Wilson, Eden Terrace, for .£l7 10s. Two trucks of heavy prime steers, on account H. E. Reed, Waerenga, mad© j up to £l6 10s. Sixteen extra, clioi<r handy-weight steers, on account W. Main, Tirau, made to £l4. averaging £l3 18s Id. Twenty-five heavy prime extra, choice quality steers, on account W„ Vosper, Cambridge, made from £6 to £l7, and averaged £l6 Is lOd. An average yarding of cows was made up of the usual percentage of dairy sorts. The demand for all well* finished cattle was steady at late rates. • Best young cows, not exceptionally j heavy, made up to £ll 17s 6d. - j of cows was influenced by the butchers’ strike, and prices registered an air of uncertain! \ Best runners mad* up to £8 10s, vealers to £4 16s. V start was riot made on the sheep 1 until after 2.30.
