SANDHURST CADETS

AUCKLAND OFFICER RETURNS FROM TRAINING HIGH DRILL EFFICIENCY A three years’ course at Sandhurst has been completed by Lieutenant If. G. Wooller, of Auckland, who returned to New Zealand on the Ulimaroa this morning. He will enter the service of the New- Zealand Defence Department. After his training during the stipulated period of 18 months at Sandhurst, Lieutenant. Woolier joined the “Buffs,” Kast Kent Regiment, in which he remained until his commission w r as secured. ■ There are at present about four I Xew r Zealanders at Sandhurst, and they are holding their own very well, especially in sports,” he told a Sun j man this morning. “The object of the course is to train I the cadets to be perfect private sol- | diers, and they have the best drilled i corps in the world. We were trained by Guards’ sergeants, who get magniI ficent results. “They let you have it, no matter who you are. A King’s eoq will receive as big a dressing down as an/ other man.** Referring to the type of cadets passing through Sandhurst, Lieutenant Wooller spoke enthusiastically of the friendships he had made and the men he had met. “They are by no means snobs, but they are shy and take some time to get to know.” lie said. “Many have been to military schools since they were very young, and that combined with the that probably their fathers and grandfathers were officers, makes them literally born and bred for military careers.”
